IDM Instruments - The power of flexibility: a company's strategy for growth

Image
IDM Instruments was recently featured in the June edition of the Manufacturers' Monthly 2018 Magazine, detailing how IDM's flexible and diverse approaches in product development and services has enabled us to meet customer needs.  The full article text is as below: The power of flexibility: a company’s strategy for growth Manufacturers’ Monthly spoke to IDM Instruments managing director, Tommy Halmos, on how flexibility and diversity in product development and services has helped the company meet customer needs. THE by the Australian Manufacturing Growth Centre, latest report published (AMGC) in April this year, titled “Building resilience in Australian Manufacturing,” recommended three strategies to all manufacturers seeking to improve their  performance: superiority, diversity and flexibility.  The report suggested that flexible firms have agile business structures that allow them to shift their production towards adjacent industries and products to maximise the

A Visitor from Thailand

Image
A Visitor from Thailand Yuttachai, from Prince of Songkla University visited IDM Instruments in May to undertake product training for one of our machines under our managing director, Tommy. Yuttachai stayed for 2 days, learning the ins-and-outs of how to use our machinery, to bring that knowledge back to Thailand to share with his team at the university.  His stay was not only educational about our machinery and usages, but it was also education because he got to experience Australia food (steaks), and Australian culture (saw some kangaroos up close and personal). It was a pleasure having you Yuttachai, and I hope you enjoyed your stay in Australia!

Advancements in Foam Porosity Measurement

Image
The first version of IDM Instruments’ Foam Porosity Tester F0016 was designed and released in the 1980s, in accordance with global industry standards, and was used to determine the ease with which air passed through a cellular structure, namely foam, by comparing the relationship between pressure and flow when subjected to different foam samples. It used vacuum chambers with manometers and was controllable via a manual dial to fine tune flow. This version was purely analogue and required fine use of the dial and flow tubes to be able to give accurate test results. Due to the purely analog design, it was difficult to achieve accurate yet repeatable test results. After more design and upgrades, the second version Foam Porosity Tester F0023 was released in late 2001. Once again improving the accuracy of foam porosity testing. This model boasted variable flow ranges, allowing for more ranges of conditions of testing foam porosities. A huge feature of this model was

Cobb Moisture Testing with IDM

Image
Cobb Moisture Absorption Test Ring & Roller This method for measuring water absorption of sized papers is used all over the world. A dry test piece of suitable paper is placed under the cylinder. The 100ml of water is poured over the test piece. After a specified time the water is poured off and the test piece is placed on standardized blotting paper. Another blotting paper is placed on top of the test piece and the excess water is removed by means of the roller. The test piece is then weighed again and the results are calculated and reported as absorption in grams per m2, according to the standard method.

ESM750S gets a Big Brother

Image
The recently introduced ESM750S 750 lbF / 3.4 kN tension / compression test stand is a proud Big Brother. Welcome  Model ESM750 , an extended length version test stand with the same height and travel specifications as the ESM1500. This test stand provides a niche solution for lower force, higher travel & higher clearance applications. ESM1500 and ESM750 single-column force testers are highly configurable solutions for tension and compression measurement applications, with capacities of 1,500 lbF (6.7 kN) and 750 lbF (3.4 kN), respectively. With generous travel and clearance, they are suitable for break testing, cycling, limit testing to a load or distance, loadholding, elongation testing, tensile testing, compression testing, and more. Satisfy various test methods through an intuitive menu with selectable test parameters, such as speed, number of cycles, etc. Up to 50 profiles may be saved and password protected. Crosshead positioning for sample setup is a breeze with a
