IDM Instruments - The power of flexibility: a company's strategy for growth

Image
IDM Instruments was recently featured in the June edition of the Manufacturers' Monthly 2018 Magazine, detailing how IDM's flexible and diverse approaches in product development and services has enabled us to meet customer needs.  The full article text is as below: The power of flexibility: a company’s strategy for growth Manufacturers’ Monthly spoke to IDM Instruments managing director, Tommy Halmos, on how flexibility and diversity in product development and services has helped the company meet customer needs. THE by the Australian Manufacturing Growth Centre, latest report published (AMGC) in April this year, titled “Building resilience in Australian Manufacturing,” recommended three strategies to all manufacturers seeking to improve their  performance: superiority, diversity and flexibility.  The report suggested that flexible firms have agile business structures that allow them to shift their production towards adjacent industries and products to maximise the

A Visitor from Thailand

Image
A Visitor from Thailand Yuttachai, from Prince of Songkla University visited IDM Instruments in May to undertake product training for one of our machines under our managing director, Tommy. Yuttachai stayed for 2 days, learning the ins-and-outs of how to use our machinery, to bring that knowledge back to Thailand to share with his team at the university.  His stay was not only educational about our machinery and usages, but it was also education because he got to experience Australia food (steaks), and Australian culture (saw some kangaroos up close and personal). It was a pleasure having you Yuttachai, and I hope you enjoyed your stay in Australia!

ESM750S gets a Big Brother

Image
The recently introduced ESM750S 750 lbF / 3.4 kN tension / compression test stand is a proud Big Brother. Welcome  Model ESM750 , an extended length version test stand with the same height and travel specifications as the ESM1500. This test stand provides a niche solution for lower force, higher travel & higher clearance applications. ESM1500 and ESM750 single-column force testers are highly configurable solutions for tension and compression measurement applications, with capacities of 1,500 lbF (6.7 kN) and 750 lbF (3.4 kN), respectively. With generous travel and clearance, they are suitable for break testing, cycling, limit testing to a load or distance, loadholding, elongation testing, tensile testing, compression testing, and more. Satisfy various test methods through an intuitive menu with selectable test parameters, such as speed, number of cycles, etc. Up to 50 profiles may be saved and password protected. Crosshead positioning for sample setup is a breeze with a

Automated Cornell Type Tester by IDM

Image
The Cornell Type Tester is used to test the long term capacity of bedding to resist cyclic loading.  The machine consists of a double hemispherical ram head on an adjustable shaft.  A load cell is located at the ram head to measure the force being applied to the bedding. IDM has designed a  Fully Automated Cornell Type Tester  (model C0044-M2) which features: PC & Operator Prompted Software Adjustable Ram Head Load Cell Capacity: 500lbF (2200N) Multiple safety features Printable Data Sheets and Data Storage Real-time / remote PC and operational support by IDM via TeamViewer, Skype and other available sources The ram head is automatically lowered so that the load/position data can be recorded for a few cycles.   This procedure is automatically performed at the start of the test and the subsequently at the end of each of the stages. Our unique software offers automatic and/or manually adjustable parameters and a two page colour report is generated for prin

Seam Fatigue Tester

Image
Model:   S0014 Used predominantly by vehicle seating manufacturers, IDM's Seam Fatigue Tester was designed to test the strength of a sewn seam in a fabric. It operates by lifting a 3kg weight using the sewn fabric as a ‘tow rope’. The 3kg mass is dropped onto a shelf at the end of each stroke and lifted again by the fabric. The shelf height is adjustable so that the mass can be set down gently without too much jerk. The machine is double-ended and two sets of specimens can be tested at each end. Features: • Cycle Speed: 30 per/min • Stroke: 150mm • Jaws: 4 x sets 50mm wide • Pre-determined counter: 4 digits • Dropping mass: 4 x 3 kg • Adjustable shelf height • Double ended, with 4 specimen  testing capabilities • Limit Switch (stops machine if cover is opened) • Safety cover over moving parts Standards: • FLTM BN 106-02 • GMW 3405 • HES D6511-99A • NES M7081:2006-N • SES N3298

Portable Foam Compression Tester from IDM

Image
MINIFLEX CLD Why measure foam hardness?   All foamers measure the density of their product. Not all foamers, however, measure foam hardness. Foam hardness has a major influence on the comfort factor of the furniture, bedding or automotive product in which it is used. Variation in hardness is one of the most common complaints from customers. Trying to judge the hardness of a foam sample by hand-feel is almost impossible. Every person will have a different opinion. To ensure consistent Quality Control of foam production, it is necessary to have an industry recognised foam hardness test procedure that will give an accurate, recordable value. The foam industry measures foam hardness by various different tests. These can be grouped as either ILD (Indentation Load Deflection) or CLD (Compression Load Deflection) type tests. The test procedure first measures the thickness of the foam sample (pre-load). It is then compressed 3 times to 30% of its original t
